What is the problem with being a considerate boater, regardless of vessel
type. I just cannot understand your selfish approach. And yes if boats are moored on the iced up water in front of me then personally I'll moor up for a while and enjoy the winter wonderland for a little longer in that spot. Lets face it we are only talking about around 5 days of ice encountered this winter so far. Even then most of it melted by mid morning. I bet you anything you like that I get more out of boating and feel better about myself for my care and consideration than you clever lot ever do with your 2 fingers up at them, just steam through and to hell with everyone else, how clever of me, it's sunk, *your* problem not mine <smug>, let us do that again atitude. As for the "fit for the purpose" argument, if it passes BSS then it is fit for the purpose. Again, give the others boaters some thought and kindness. You will enjoy this new feeling if you gave it a try, instead of feeling angry all the time. This is not a n/b .v. grp war. Frankly, i have never understood this uncivilised tribal animocity. No time for it. It upsets my love for life and narrow boating. |

What about situations where it isn't possible? Take our trip at new year. No ice when we set off, but encountered sheet ice on the journey. Mooring up would have meant not getting back to our home mooring, and leaving the boat for several days on an insecure (and unsafe) mooring. Does being considerate require me to expose my boat to the risk of being vandalised, just because somebody hasn't properly secured his boat against the ice? Strikes me that the guy who leaves his boat like that is the inconsiderate one. >Lets face it we are only talking about around 5 days of ice encountered this >winter so far. Ah, what a lovely "holier than thou" attitude. I suspect I get rather more out of it, because I don't have the burden of a chip on my shoulder about it. > As for the "fit for the purpose" argument, if it passes BSS >then it is fit for the purpose. What UTTER crap! BSS merely confirms that the boat isn't a danger to others. It will pass a BSC examination even if it is rotten as a pear and in imminent danger of sinking. >Again, give the others boaters some thought >and kindness. I do. What I don't do is absolve them from their own responsibility. > You will enjoy this new feeling if you gave it a try, instead >of feeling angry all the time. Pardon? I'm not the one who seems to be angry here. -- Dave Mayall |
