I'm confused!
The TESCO website (http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=374) concerning the offer with clubcard deal token states that "Once you've received your YHA Tokens, you must book with the hostel at least 14 days before you wish to stay." Yet, the infomation .PDF file and information sheets that come with the ordered tokens states 28 days in advance is required. So which is it YHA???? (Bookings must be made at least xx days in advance) 14 days or 28 days! Sort it out! Karl. |

Okay, I have a result. I tested the water with YHA Matlock a few days
ago by booking two mid-Wales hostels via Central Reservations. Email to YHA: "Dear YHA, I wish to make a booking for 1 male for the following nights: xx July - Blaencaron xx July - Tyncornel (failing either of those preferences - Dolgoch - as a suitable alternative to either night). I have Tesco clubcard deals tokens for both nights for the full cost - 20pounds, which I am happy to forward by post to you - once you have made a booking for me. According the Tesco website 14 days advance booking is required in order to use these tokens, so I am assuming this is okay." Reply from CRS at YHA Matlock: "Thank you for your email. I have checked the two hostels and there would be space available on the dates required. I have checked the terms and conditions relating to the Tesco vouchers and under out terms and conditions you need to make the booking 28 days in advance. I apologise for the inconvenience but I have double cheeked this with our website, tesco's website and the contact centre manage, and it seems to be that tesco's have altered the Terms and conditions on their website. To make a booking please call 0870 770 8868 Kind Regards" ------------- So there you go! YHA maintain its 28 days advance booking required. I sent a polite email back to thank them for the honest reply, but that I do not intend to make a booking until I can use the vouchers - I am prepared to wait to use the offer. So those unoccupied beds at the mid-Wales hostels (with only a few hundred overnights a year I must add!) may remain unsold - who knows? I accept this may be a Tesco error only, but this is a new offer and it does not look good on YHA if a mess up like different terms and conditions occur in the first few weeks of the offer. I ask myself "how many other new or old customers/members have been inconvenienced by this rather silly error?" It puts YHA in a bad light, which is the last thing we need at the moment. It's a good offer, most probably of benefit to members, YHA and Tesco all at the same time. It's good marketing for YHA. Don't get me wrong the offer is worth the effort by all involved - but folks you have to get it right if you are going to do it. This may seem like picking holes in something unimportant, but I find it hard to believe that some new members or potential customers are not being put off at the first hurdle of booking a YHA because they have been told incorrect terms and conditions. It's almost like being mis-sold or simply mis-lead. My other point is, I don't see the benefit to YHA of booking 28 days ahead? We'll (the members) just book Bank Holidays using vouchers or equally busy periods? Surely it's the last minute and/or off peak periods that YHA want us to fill in order to increase revenue via increased occupancy? If 'YHA snoring' has loads of beds for tonight and it's likely to remain that way, then its sensible to accept our vouchers? You never know it might generate secondary sales, like meals! Just a thought. Karl. |

A reliable YHA source recently informed me the terms and conditions
have been changed. You now need to book in advance by 14 days and NOT 28. Karl. |

Karl was enjoying the surroundings and relative tranquility of YHA Dartington but suffered a cold shower as *someone* had fiddled with the boiler settings so hot water was only available netween 6:30 & 640am or 4:30 and 4:40pm. (He did get a hot shower in the end which he deserved after helping the VW when I was stuck in Lynmouth on Thursday) |

There was no hot/cold control on the showers, so they were invariably far too flamin' hot, with the potential to scald. Not my idea of an ideal arrangement. I'm hoping that's change by now. Anyone been there recently? -- To reply see 'from' in headers; lose the domain, and insert dots and @ where common sense dictates. |
