The YHA Local Groups website - http://www.yhagroup.org.uk - has just
been redesigned and relaunched. If you're a member of a local YHA group, thinking of joining one, or even thinking of forming one - go and take a look. The site is run and funded by volunteers (well, me actually). YHA don't appear to believe in promoting their own local groups. |

Like the whole concept of hostelling, for a start. They claim to have a marketing team - does that team ever DO anything to warrant its existence? Well done Chris, by the way. Sorry for the rantette. -- To reply see 'from' in headers; lose the domain, and insert dots and @ where common sense dictates. |

I used to be a member of one group (now defunct) whho did b*gger all. They used to go hostelling once perhaps twice a year so about 80 overnights and that was it. Vicki |

Chris, you do not seem to be up to date on the YHA thing and YHA local
groups please read my message posted two weeks ago about the YHA and the fact that the organisation does not want to be involved in YHA Groups unless their funds are amalgamated in the YHA accounts. Talk to John Annette from COPSE he will tell you the full story. Phil. Chris Hunt wrote: > The YHA Local Groups website - http://www.yhagroup.org.uk - has just > been redesigned and relaunched. That wasn't quite what they wanted to do, their proposal can be found
at http://www.leicesteryha.org.uk/news/guidance.pdf (naturally it's nowhere on the YHA site). It was voted down at the AGM when it became clear that the Charities Commission rules which supposedly demanded these changes did not, in fact, apply to local groups at all. A conclusion reached due to a more careful reading of the rules by myself, and a phone call to the Charities Commision by John Annett. Of course, YHA "democracy" being what it is, there's nothing to stop the Executive pushing ahead with these changes anyway. However I don't think it's likely. Hopefully the forum for discussion provided by my new site will prevent such a fiasco happening in the future. I hope to see you there Phil |
