Default Letter on www.yhagroup.org.uk

I don't know if any local group members get on here, but if there is,
here is an item of interest. I have tried to interest two people who I
know who are with COPSE and their committee but there seems to be a
certain sense of caution when dealing with Internet newsgroups.

Member COPSE / Croydon YHA Group

PS Am I allowed to say that?

Of course you are! Free speech is your right, just don't break any laws
doing so! Its probably polite not to upset people, but life dictates
you will upset a few along the way - often without trying.

You might need to get a 'licensing agreement' to be able to use the
'brand'. YHA are a bit worried about Trustees being responsible for
'YHA group' behaviour, so they are going to make 'YHA groups' sign a
what you can and can't do sort of contract. We will have 'Enterprise
hostelling groups'.

Who said YHA is not getting too corporate?

In a few years time we might have "Welcome to YHA Ambleside, your stay
is sponsored by the Coca Cola company - have a refreshing stay at the
'real' thing", claims the receptionist at check-in.

Whats the bet Costa Coffee or 'Burger King' gets put in the big city
hostels within 5 years?
Oh heck, I can get so depressed sometimes,

Karl.

Erk. No thanks. Not even in my wildest nightmares do I want to see
that.

Do yourself a favour - buy a copy of "Fast Food Nation" by Eric
Schlosser, and you'll see what else they come with. Yeeuk! Having
read it, I firmly believe anyone who encourages their kids to eat this
type of stuff should be done for child cruelty.

Eh? What happened there? I meant to say 'bun', with an ennnn. I'm
rather taken by the symbolism of the sticky but though - or then again
maybe not.

You're preaching to the (mostly) converted, as I don't usually go
anywhere McDeadthings if I can help it. I had a very stange pregnancy
though, 6 or so years ago: I wanted a quarter pounder with cheese
morning, noon and night - and nothing else would do. This was odd
because of two things: one, it was McDeadthings; two, I'm vegetarian and
was then as well. Thankfully my tastebuds regained their senses as soon
as Emily was born. I was taken to McD's for my 'fix', and for the first
time in many months I thought it was completely disgusting. I still get
the occasional urge, but I put that down to stupidity. Chocolate
usually works to get rid of any 'craving' :-)
