I just wanted to publicly highlight some excellent customer/member
service I've just received from An Oige, the Irish YHA people. I emailed some availability requests and they had problems sending a reply to me by email. So instead they typed out the availability and snail mailed me in first class from Ireland. Wow. I've personally emailed the lady responsible, but I was so chuffed I thought I'd mention the extraordinary level of service publicly. Not many organisations would go to such lengths to help their members/customers. I am of course in the process of booking an 8 night trip around Ireland and I'm now looking forward to my trip even more. It'll be my first ever visit to Ireland. First impressions last. Thanks to all at An Oige again, Karl Shepherdson |

My feeling is like anything you get very good people and very bad. I had
mixed responses from An Oige - I booked a long way ahead in Killarney and they messed up the booking(but then on the plus side gave us a better room than we had booked), but the guy in Valentia Island was excellent and couldnt have been nicer - he bent over backwards to make the stay comfortable and easy. We loved Valentia Hostel stayed in 1985 and had a great time doing the Ring
of Kerry with lots of adventures on the way. The worst hostel that I have ever stayed at was at Ballinskellig...mould on the dorm walls and they did not provide cutlery at Irish Hostels then and we had to make do eating with kitchen implements. The Warden was a real grumpy woman...arr memories! |

Last time I went(2003), Valentia island was still fantastic but the warden
was really struggling to make ends meet - spent a lot of tiem singing in the pubs and selling hot dogs to keep body and soul together. Best little place on earth though to stay...
