YHA (and YorkshireMedia) has been working on a new companion website,
Empty Roads, specifically aimed at encouraging more people to visit hostels without a car. Covering three pilot areas, the Yorkshire Dales, Devon and Lake District, the site is heavy on detailed car-free travel info, wrapped up in (I hope!) interesting area information and hostel information. The site is now live, and I'd appreciate your comments, thoughts, criticisms (and praises!) via the group. http://www.emptyroads.com If you spot any typos, you can contact me off-list by emailing (my name) at yorkshiremedia dot com Hope you like the new site. One of the things putting me off more (non-car) hostelling is the distance between hostels; the demise and lack of alternative to Copt Oak rather putting an end to interhostelling between the Nth & Sth of England. |

I'd agree. Since the YHA has lost a lot of the hostels that were jumping points for walkers, you are very much limited to either day walks or cycling. They seem to have forgotten the long distance and linear walkers. Rob |
