SLAVES OF THE SWORD: ARIEL SHARON A film by Paul Jenkins (56 minutes, 2003) http://www.frif.com/new2004/shar.html May 13-19 at 7:00 & 9:30 pm (except May 14: one 7:00pm show only) Anthology Film Archives 32 Second Avenue @ 2nd St. NYC 10003 www.anthologyfiomarchives.org This is an incisive biographical portrait of Israel's controversial Prime Minister. A veteran of the 1948 War for Independence, since the Yom Kippur War of 1973 the longtime General has often been compared to Napoleon, a comparsion he has accepted with grace. The film includes interviews with political allies and critics, friends and family, activists and historians. While some claim that, in truth, Sharon represents the policy of all Israeli governments (but without ambiouous or evasive words), others question whether h is anachronistic reliance on naked, brutal force when dealing with the Palestinians will mark the end of the Zionist dream. |
