Photo Story of Rachel Corrie's Murder http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article1248.shtml http://capwiz.com/adc/issues/alert/?alertid=1795771 Resolution Calls for Investigating Rachel Corrie’s Death Ask Congress to Support H.Con.Res. 111 Issue: On March 16, 2003, American college student and peace activist Rachel Corrie was run over and killed by an Israeli army bulldozer in the town of Rafah in the Israeli occupied Gaza Strip. Corrie, a 23-year-old student at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, traveled to the occupied Palestinian territories to join with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) to protect Palestinian civilians and promote a peaceful solution the conflict. She died while attempting to stop the bulldozing of a Palestinian home by the Israeli army. On March 25, 2003, Representatives Baird (D-Washington), McDermott (D-Washington), Inslee (D-Washington), A. Smith (Washington) Dicks (D-Washington), Larsen (D-Washington), Lewis (D-Georgia), Wu (D-California), Honda (D-California), Eshoo (D-California), and Capps (D-California) introduced a non-binding resolution (H.Con.Res. 111) expressing sympathy for the loss of Rachel Corrie in the Palestinian town of Rafah in the Gaza Strip. H.Con.Res. 111: (1) expresses sympathy to Craig and Cynthia Corrie and to their extended families, friends, and co-workers; (2) calls on the United States Government to undertake a full, fair, and expeditious investigation into the death of Rachel Corrie; and (3) encourages the U.S. government and the government of Israel to work together to determine all the circumstances that led to this incident and to ensure that an incident of this kind never occurs again. Response: Rachel Corrie was a courageous peace activist who was devoted to the basic American tenet of liberty and justice for all. NAAA-ADC joins with the family and friends of Rachel Corrie in mourning her tragic death. In order to honor her memory and commemorate her tragic death, NAAA-ADC asks that you contact your members of Congress and ask them to support H.Con.Res. 111. The U.S. government must not allow the killing of an American citizen to go unheeded and unpunished. The investigation of Rachel Corrie’s brutal death is necessary to put an end to the apparent indifference by the Administration towards Rachel’s death and that of other American citizens killed or injured in recent years by Israeli soldiers in the Occupied Territories. A formal investigation will also highlight arbitrary Israeli policies and practices that run contrary to declared U.S. policies regarding the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Take Action: Contact your members of Congress by entering your zip code above and linking to the "action alert" concerning the death of Rachel Corrie and Congressional efforts to fully investigate the circumstances of her death. Together, we can do something to help honor Rachel Corrie’s memory and fulfill her peaceful mission. Together, we will make a difference. http://www.rachelcorrie.org/action.htm |
