I may be wrong, this what I UNDERSTOOD to be the case, and I'm prepared to
be corrected. I rang up Thomson this pm to check that, as told when booking with Explorers, I'd be getting an extra 5kg luggage allowance on showing my dive cards - a total of 25kg in the hold, 5kg in the hand. However a quick look through their website before the call suggested my hand luggage would be to a maximum of 10kg. Oh no, I was told, the hand luggage allowance was of 5kg. The 10kg limit is for bookings made within the last few days (I'd booked 8th June) AND replaces ALL OTHER luggage allowances. As a diver I'd still be given an additional 5Kg free BUT I could carry a max of 10Kg in the hand, with any extra going in the hold for which extra payment was necessary. Having been thrown so off-balance so unexpectedly, it didn't occur to me to ask what the hold rates would be - flat rate, or per Kg or per 5Kg or whatever - but they apply EACH WAY too! So you get stung twice for taking your kit. In fact with the limit at 10Kg you get stung for anything more than a few T shirts, change of undies and a toothbrush almost! incidentally, how does this reconcile with the requirment not to take more than 100ml of "fluids" in your hand luggage? Toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo - you've exceeded your limit! If you put it in the hold, you get charged extra for it! Either way, it looks as if the usual is happening - a low headline price, and then a whole host of unavoidable (and costly?) extras once you're in. Looks like Explorers just became more expensive. Anyone confirm or refute this? Ken |

Yes - but with new rules as of now, only 10kg, and only hand luggage, before you start paying extra! Ken |

If you need more to cover your sports equipment, you will need to prebook sports equipment carriage on our extras line on 0870 1900 737 (option 2). Kind regards, ThomsonFly Customer Support " |

In short, those taking package hols which are served by Thomsonfly MAY still get a hold baggage allowance, according to the terms and conditions of the package - check on booking if not made explicit beforehand. Those booking flight-only will ONLY have recourse to hand luggage UNLESS they pay extra for hold baggage. Read the full doodah at http://www.thomsonfly.com/en/flywithus_2753.html Ken |
