Default Sailing Book Title?

Years ago I read a book written about a family escaping the arrival of the
'eastern bloc' in their home country of Estonia. Summarised, they bought a
decent sized yacht, victualled it and then set sail to the USA, via the UK.

Has anyone else read it? Can anyone remember the title? Please post or
email me direct.

Many thanks

A

I just looked it up. Interesting but they, it seems, didn't escape
the arrival of the eastern bloc on that yacht as they sailed it from
Stockholm. But I don't blame them for fleeing on. Swedish authorities
didn't exactly receive WWII refugees with open arms.

I thought a sizeable part of the Jewish population of Denmark escaped to Sweden
during WWII.

Sure but were they received with 'open arms'? I don't know but if
they were they belong to happy minority. All refugee families from
the Baltics got a letter from the Swedish state that made it clear
that Sweden would like them to return home or move on. Very few
returned but many, many moved on.

They moved on to UK and the Commonwealth.

Unlike some unlucky guys from the Baltic states. Those were the ones
that had not burnt their uniforms when entering Sweden. I know one who
did and thus survived. The Swedish Communist party wanted to send back
all 30000+ civilians as well.

Someone once told me the biggest 'Estonian' city was not Tallinn but
one of Canada's cities. I don't remember which one.

The biggest Karpathos city is in the USA.

It's ironic that the UK shipped many Italian blackshirts to Canada at
the end of the war.
