Default Wednesday Ascot 3.20

Absolutely fascinating race which brings together two types of runner,
those who have progressed from some of the top handicaps (Cesare,
Dunelight, Illustrious Blue and Road To Love) and those who went
directly into group races after maiden or lowly hcap wins (Markovitch,
Snoqualmie Boy).

The market favours the ex handicappers and I have to agree but with
just a couple of pound between them it's difficult to pick the winner.

Three of the runners met over 9 furlongs at newmarket at the craven
meetings with Nad Al Sheba winner Illustrious Blue coming out best of
the trio. Cesare makes his seasonal debut but goes well fresh so it
shouldn't be a problem.

The pace in the race is likely to come from Road To Love and the hard
pulling Markovitch with Dunelight close up. A strong run mile
therefore looks likely and the one I think this will best suite is

DUNELIGHT

who has an excellent record at a mile. He had one poor run in the
Britannia at the Royal meeting but showed that to be all wrong when
winning the 46k Heritage Handicap at the King George meeting over a
mile.

A combination of lack of fitness and 9f (weakened final furlong)
contibuted to him finishing behind today's rivals at the craven
meeting and at today's price of 8/1 (BF) he represents a little value
in a closely matched affair.

Excellent summation as usual Martin ;-) whilst I agree with your post about
DUNELIGHT probably,in your opinion, being a bit of value,I have to stay with
CESARE ,who goes well when fresh and is no mean performer in his own
right, plus Richardson of The Cheveley Park Stud has just been on ATR and
says CESARE is ready? so its CESARE for me...

Dave it was mainly the price the pushed me towards Dunelight, since I
find it difficult to seperate the ex handicappers.

In the 5.05 I think the 24.0 on BEE STINGER looks far too big. Won on
it's seasonal debut last year so can go well fresh. Looking at the
class over the last 12 month a win in a 21k Brighton handicap stands
out. Prior to that ran quite well in a class 3 Ascot handicap. It's
formline on GF+ over 7/8f reads: 31511 ....

If it's fit i wouldn't be surprised if its price contract a bit.

My numbers and opinion pointed to a close thing between Road To Love and
Cesare so I didn't bet, too early yet - I prefer to have all the runners had
a run this season before I put cash down.

Other apeared to agree about the price and I was able to close my bet
at 17.5 for a free bet but Bee Stinger was never in the hunt although
he made a little late headway.
