I had a phone call from TSB this morning. The automated voice said that
there may have been fraudulent transactions on my credit card. Following the instructions I pressed the asked for digits on my phone keypad to get the transactions. The first for £1 at 4.36 am today was to a site I had not heard of. The other three transactions immediately after were to unknown sites, two in UK and one in the U.S. for transactions of £120/130.. I keyed in the option that the transactions were not mine and was connected to an operator. She asked if I still had my card...Yes. Has anyone else got access to it... No. Does any one else have access to my computer... No. When was my last transaction... In person at the Brantano shoe shop in Eastbourne on April 25th. I said that I had also used my card on that date over the internet to the 7 Day Shop in Guernsey but that they have not charged my card yet as the item I ordered is out of stock. This card had been renewed in March and I had only made one other transaction on it, on the internet to Brighton racecourse for my annual membership so there have not been many chances for anyone to steal my details. Top marks to TSB for spotting an unusual spending pattern. They have cancelled my card and will issue me with a new one within three days. Many years ago when the transactions were confirmed by phone by the retailer I used my TSB card three times on a Saturday morning. When I used it again in the afternoon the retailer handed me the phone saying 'They want to speak to you' Derek. |

I had a similar good experience on my Egg Card. Luckily it had not been used
fraudulently. I rarely use it but took it with me to Orlando last year, so that I could keep my own transactions separate from the family holiday budget. I bought an iPod Nano on it (Saving about 20% of the UK price, by the way) and 3 hours later I was phoned on my mobile by EGG to ask whether I had made a purchase in the USA. Of course, to receive an international call on my mobile probably cost me a couple of quid but it was nice to know that they were being so vigilant! Once when I asked for my credit limit to be increased for the holiday period
I was advised to always let them know when I would be abroad and using the card a lot.Now I always phone the credit card companies before going away as unlike you my mobile does not go with me. Strange coincidence. They are very cheap for the Canon cartridges that your
other local company Maxsave no longer stock. Their web site does not list a phone number just a Fax one. They seem not to read their E-Mails properly. I E-Mailed them to ask about the late delivery and asked them to contact me when the stock is in so that I can give them the new cc number. They ignored the last part of the message. Derek.
