Hi all
If you are like me and like good old fashisioned car racing F1 is for you. But do you think F1 has become far to safe now? Traction control so there are hadly any skiding etc and no tyre smoke off the life. The limited V6 engines, slow it down so it is safer. Anyway the canadian gp last weekend was great! It was just like the old F1 back in 2000 when there were big crashs every time. As you can probably now i like a bit of action with crashes etc. Please comment Is F1 too safe????? Chrispin |

F1 is *way* too safe, up until an accident like Kubica's begins, then F1 can never be made safe enough. Back in 1994 Damon Hill (IIRC) made a comment to the effect that events had exposed F1's thin veneer of safety. For a split second it appeared that Damon's comments were about to come back to haunt us all over again. The good old days are good because they are gone forever, as they say. |

Risk taking is now considered eccentric to the point of becoming anti-social and in the future it will no doubt become illegal. Freedom of choice is being restricted and life is becoming more mundane. |

Nobody wants to see people get seriously hurt but it is great to see a brave pass at high speed with concrete walls all around - knowing that there are just inches between a brilliant manoeuvre and going in to the wall. The Canadian GP was a great race. We need more tracks like this and fewer of the sterile Tilkedromes with their endless run off areas. Bring back steel brakes and proper manual gearboxes as well. -- Jon Griffey |

Kubica was lucky (well, if he was really lucky, he wouldn't have had the accident). 10-15 years ago, the same accident would have killed him.
