Reigate Priory CC have had a wonderful season this year, and it all came
to a head on Saturday. With the 1st XI and 3rd XI already Champions of their Premier Leagues, the 2nd XI had been chasing down Wimbledon 2nd XI. At one stage Wimbledon were 42 points clear (13 pts for a win, 4 for a winning draw, 1 for a losing and 0 for losing). Since Reigate beat them in mid-July, Wimbledon have managed only 3 winning draws, 2 losing draws and 2 losses (those two losses were the last 2 games of the season)! Last day of the season, with Wimbledon on 120 points and Priory on 116 - it was in Wimbledon's hands! Priory chased 160 at Sutton, and at 70 for 5, things weren't looking good. But we managed to take it down to needing 5 off the last over, a single was taken off the first ball and our captain batting at number 9, hit one over mid-off next ball to bring victory to the Priory 2s! Next call was to Weybridge, where Wimbledon set the home team 220 for victory. With 6 overs to go, Weybridge still needed 40 with 5 wickets in hand. After numerous calls throughout the afternoon, the Weybridge barlady decided to take the phone off the hook. News filtered through that Weybridge had scored 10 runs off the final over to win the game, and meant Priory had retained the 2nd XI Premier League Title. It's been a great year for the club - and here's to next season! In the 1st XI, the averages have just been published by our President... Simon Ecclestone (ex-Somerset) scored 501 runs at 45.5 (and a SR of 95) and took 30 wickets at 13.83. Three other batsmen (Michael Foster, Matt Bennett & Sairaj Bahutule) all average over 45, and another, Alex Richards, scored 450+ runs at 35. Bahutule managed 49 wickets this season, despite having to go back to India twice for personal reasons. Here's hoping he comes back next season, but all depends if he gets a contract with a county side! -- Champions!!!! The Records... Most Points - 95 Most Wins - 29 Least Goals conceded - 15 Most Cleansheets - 25 Most Consecutive Away Wins - 9 Longest time without conceding a goal - 1024 minutes Number of bitter opposition fans - MILLIONS!!!!! |

We've got another good youngster you should look out for in the future - Jason Roy. He's only 15, but has been in our 1st XI now for the last 5 games. This is one for you RH. Jason was born in South Africa, to South African parents. He moved here when he was 8 or 9, and is currently at Whitgift School, Croydon. He has set his sights on playing for England, and both his parents are pushing him that way too. What is you view on this? |

Who in your opinion can at all be imprinted with the English personality? Ramapriya ayirpamar@gmail.com |
