I have to agree that today England have suffered one shocking loss, i.e. Coillingwoods LBW. However it is a common fact that these bad calls even out and England are still ahead on that count. I think Damien Martyn would agree. However with a full day gone and England at 319-7 I'm not too dissapointed given the 131-4 scenario. I feel England will realise that some weather is around the corner and I suspect that after today cloud cover will ensure that every day from now will see bad light offered around 17:30. So I believe tomorrow morning will hopefully see a rearguard batting performance that will hopefully add 50 runs and remove a full session! Saturday looks a little showery and time will be lost! |

Funny old day. I know Warne was magnificent, but Vaughan & Pietersen gave him a large helping hand with their dismissals. And I'm not entirely sure what Tresco was trying to achieve, but it was again a pity to see him once again go almost immediately to Warne after seeing off the new ball. So much for the suggestion that he should play in the middle order. The pitch looks an absolute road, so unless our opening bowlers produce their most inspired spells of the series you can see Aus building a sizeable lead. Cheers David |

The forecast is for showers tomorrow afternoon which suggests humid conditions and hopefully a bit of movement in the air if the pitch is going to offer nothing. Wishful thinking on my part though. Harmison needs to have two or three amazing spells and dig himself out of this awful trough he's had handily disguised by the performance of the other bowlers in tests 2-4. Can't see it happening myself, much as I'd like to... Richard |

When I got in from work the score was 131-4, 319-7 seems a good effort from that positiion. And hey if you had offered me a first innings of 375 (which is what England will get) then I'd have taken it. All series I've listened to people tell me how good the pitches have been for batting and what a minimum first innings score should be, yet I've still not seen Oz reach 400! Regards Mr B |

However, 155 at Lord's might have seemed a good effort after they were 21-5 and 101-8, but it doesn't make it a good score overall. > And hey if you had offered me a first innings of 375 (which is what England > will get) then I'd have taken it. > > All series I've listened to people tell me how good the pitches have been for > batting and what a minimum first innings score should be, yet I've still not > seen Oz reach 400! Keep watching. The 373 that England made is lower than the totals that led to them scraping narrow wins at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge. Unless you thought that this pitch was worse than those two, why would you consider it a good score, especially given that England picked an extra batsman to replace their best bowler of the series? -- David North Email to this address will be deleted as spam Use usenetATlaneHYPHENfarm.fsnet.co.uk |
