As a matter of fact I find (some) skeptics fun people to talk to; there wouldn't be a lot of entertainment value in a group where no-one ever dissented or questioned things said. > I mean.. what the hell are skeptics doing in newsgroups like this?? Ah! yes, why? Well, maybe they are just angry that you seem to have the insight while they don't. It's envy innit? Maybe they would like to share the knowledge that you have but are too embarrassed to be seen asking politely in case their Internet friends and peers find out. Maybe it has something to do with an upbringing that taught them to reject all notions of the supernatural and superstition in favour of the scientific method and *really* would like a good explanation. Even better - they would like you to come up with proof. > all they do is confuse people!!! No sorry - I don't buy that. If what they say confuses you then you cannot be very sure of your facts. Perhaps you are beginning to see that (some of) what they tell you may be true? If you disagree; if in spite of their better arguments you still feel you are right then you must be able to give a reason - else they will be justified in writing you off as a nutcase. Perhaps you should examine what they say in the light of what you know to be true. Find the reason for the conflict of opinion and if it tells you that you were wrong then be gracious enough to admit it (or do as I do and keep shtumm) but if it tells you you are right then (celebrate with a tinny) you will not only have cleared some of the confusion in your own mind, you will have the pleasure of answering them. > I know everyone is entitled to say something... Hey! come on - think positive - turn this around and consider skeptics as a means of honing your debating skills. At worst they make you think and then you learn... and in the end you are better off. -- altheim |
