Part of my motive has been the fear of death, and the other part has been
rebellion against excessive comforts that lead to laziness and weakness.

Somebody has been playing chess with my life, and I've been
checkmated. No matter where I move next, it will be to my opponent's
advantage, though not necessarily to my demise.

forcing you to make yourself look bad. You are powerless to stop and
will be finally committed.
