According to relativity theory (which Einstein himself admitted may be a
gross simplification of reality but is the best model we've currently got), velocities are not conventionally additive. Light speed is rather a kind of asymptote so that, to give an example with a familiar frame of reference, if object A is travelling relative to the Sun at 98% of light speed towards Polaris, and object B is doing the same relative to object A, then object B is still travelling at only 99% of light speed (rather than 196%) relative to the Sun.
