I was given a detector (TS-150) for Xmas and am still puzzled on how to
set it up...instructions are poor. I understand in general about getting the Critical Sound by adjusting the phase knob first 80 cm or so above ground then lowering it to near ground and adjusting phase knob if sound increases or decreases, but, no info on what setting (1-10) phase knob should be set on prior to initial set up. In fact although the detector seems to be relatively good the instructions are not. I've been searching the web for instructions for set up, but, all I am finding are instructions and hints on where and how to go about detecting in the field, set up seems to be taken for granted. Can anyone offer any help or links to info on this? -- Rob http://www.flickr.com/photos/canopus_archives/ |

What do the labels say on each of the detectors controls? Ed |

Sorry, been a bit busy and slow getting back to this. Left knob labelled "Sensitivity" with Off and Max, right control labelled "Phase" numbered scale 1 to 10. Instructions for setting up. Raise sensor to aprox 80 cm above ground, adjust Sensitivity until critical sound just heard. Lower to 10 - 15 cm above ground, if critical sound rises lift sensor and adjust Phase control anti clockwise a little. If critical sound lowers lift sensor and adjust Phase know clockwise. I can understand the gist of this, but, what is puzzling me is what setting do you put Phase on before the start of adjustment? 1, 10, midway? Perhaps the reason I was getting confused over setting it up was that I was doing it for the first time on a rocky beach and afterwards suspected that there may have been a great deal of iron deposits in the cliffs. Maybe next time I'll experiment on a sandy beach with sand dunes all around instead. -- Rob http://www.flickr.com/photos/canopus_archives/ |
