Glimpsed an Speccy XLT in the background. What was the machine the main (Dr
Who lookalike) bloke was using? Thats one hell of a thing to strap onto your
chest, he looked like Darth Vader without the helmet.
And lucky Carl? Jammy sod I call him.

My guess is that was a Tesoro Toltec.

The minelab cant be blamed it can only detected a metal object that many
other detectors would have missed at that depth.
It might have frightend a few farmers to see the size of the hole.

Graham proved a point to me the other day without knowing it !
The Minelabs and XLT both can show a great signal from above the soil, but
dig down, swing again and you get a completely different signal...
I thought it was just me with the XLT, but apparently not. How many others
get great + signals and dig to only find a plough shear or alike ?
