Hi
My name is Henry and live in South Africa our choice are very few as far as
metal detectors are concerned as we have to import every thing from either
U.K or USA and our currency is not very strong.

I have an opportunity to purchase one of three minelab machines either a x
terra 50 , a musketeer advantage or sovereign elite (without Meter )

please could someone give their opinion on what I should go for

the use would be general beach and old battlefields from the Anglo Boer war

All three are good machines but I would lean towards the Sovereign
Elite as the best all-rounder. It is also possibly the best beach
detector in it's price range. If you are going to import then get it
from the USA as it would be half the price of the UK price.

Thanks for the advice would you recommend any other machine above the
sovereign elite and secondly do you think the optional accessory with the
digital meter is necessary

The meter can be useful but it is not necessary if your hearing is O.K.
You just have to get used to what the tones are telling you.

As to what other detectors would I recommend? That is the million $
question. There are many other detectors out there and everyone would
recommend their own favourite. Personally I use an XP Goldmaxx Power
and an XP ADX 200 which covers all the areas I search. However,
neither of them are very good beach detectors. If you are starting out
then stick to the Sovereign as it will do what you want and will have a
good resale value.

there are several detectorists from RSA, hell I even go to RSA hunting Boer
sites myself...and to enjoy a few clippies.
