The group presumably isn't costing you anything to maintain; if it is and you're a news admin, then you should already know how to drop a group. If not, might I suggest a good textbook? Otherwise, be silent. There is activity here, just not very much (and a striking parallel might be drawn between that and your brain, were I feeling in the mood to offend you [1]). Rather than close the group down, I would be more interested to find out WHY
folks are not posting here any more. My own thought is that the spam posts have p****d everyone off. If there were suficient response I would be prepared to set up a forum (free to members) on my paid server (so no annoying adverts) However to do this for two or three people would be a wate of time and effort, so if anyone is interested post your reply here and if there is sufficient interest I will set it up. Good reply Jesper. I would love to know where the £600 cost to host a domain
came from. I rent server space from a company in the states and have a number of forums some with membership approaching 1,000 members (each forum has its own domain name) - total cost 10$ per month and there is still be enough bandwidth spare to run a detecting forum! I will wait for other possible replies before making any decision. If there is a demand I can have a forum up and running within an hour. But whatever the outcome best of luck with your forum! I don't see any, then I''m accessing through Individual.net and I suspect they filter a lot of it and if it's in html then it's definitely blocked by them. -- Rob http://www.flickr.com/photos/canopus_archives/ |

Hi Rob,
If you do not see any spam here then your ISP must indeed be filtering it out. Without scrolling down I can see a couple of 'get rich quick schemes', a 'buy dot coms' and a 'Hot teen web shots' posts. It looks from the lack of replies that there is little/no interest in a free metal detecting forum so if Jesper gets his forum up and running then I may join that one (the only doubt is it appears to be a spin off from the Minelab Owners forum...........and I don't have a minelab) "Canopus" <BNRAGMAOKKXT@spammotel.com> wrote in message news:4fl4g6F1jgb00U1@individual.net... > RedHeat on 14/06/2006 wrote: > >>Rather than close the group down, I would be more interested to find out >>WHY folks are not posting here any more. It's not my ISP it's my news server Individual.net. It's subscription based, 10 Euros a year, doesn't allow HTML and supposed to have a certain amount of spam filtering. I see the occasional amateur spam in some groups, angry replies to spam that never gets through to me in other groups and never had an indication there was any spam sent to this group. Looks like the 10 Euros a year was worth it after all. ![]() Oh heck, hope this isn't counted as spam ;-)) -- Rob http://www.flickr.com/photos/canopus_archives/ |

NTL's server is similarly spam-free, although as you can see from my headers I use leafnode as a local server, to cope with NTL's occasionally rather crap server. To be fair, their service is a lot better than it used to be, and they're otherwise very nice to use. -- Dan Holdsworth PhD dan1701usenet@ntlworld.com By caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, By the beans of Java do thoughts acquire speed, hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning, By caffeine alone do I set my mind in motion |

I don't want to run a minelabowners.com ripoff, even if minelabowners.com becoming a paysite is what got me going. ETA is at the moment in a few days, still waiting for logos from my overworked graphician (who claims to have a "real life" besides computing). Regards, / Jesper |
