Gary,
Whatever you do, don't get a Maplins detector, It's a bit like wanting to take up fishing and getting a 'MY FIRST ANGLING SET' from Woolies. If you haven't seen one of the magazines concerning detecting (Treasure Hunting or The Searcher) then go to W.H Smith in your City Centre and find this months copy. There are loads of contact details in the magazines for dealers advertising new and second hand machines plus a FOR SALE column from private advertisers. I reckon you need to spend £250 - £300 on a used detector to get something of decent condition and quality. Look for makes like Minelab, Tesoro, Fisher and Whites then call one of the many dealers and ask their advice (They are all very helpful) Try searching on the net for dealers like Joan Allen, Regton, Crawfords, Detecknicks or Treasure Land. If you need any advice drop me an E Mail, I have used most makes of detector as a beginner and experienced user and am happy to offer some impartial advice. DO NOT GET A DETECTOR FROM ARGOS, TANDY, WOOLWORTHS OR SIMILAR. OH, AND PLEASE DO NOT BUY ONE OF THE NASTY CHINESE BITS OF CRAP OF E BAY EITHER, THEY REALLY SUCK A BIG ONE!!!! Good Luck in your quest Steve "Gaz." <gary.a1@ntlworld.com> wrote in message news:dB4Nd.136$_b3.77@newsfe4-gui.ntli.net... > Hi > Im interested in getting a metal detector to start the hobby,im located in > manchester uk and cant seem to find many shops in this location, apart from > maplins(dont know what there like)..If anyone can recommend a place i can > go too in manchester area that would be great,or if anyone has a second > hand one to sell i could collect within around 40miles or so. > Many Thanks > Gary. > |
