How can I identify coins that have no visible markings on them? Assuming
they're not buttons but have unfortunately fell to ravages of time and fertilisers. Can I identify from remaining features, for example; material (inc. remnants of plating) diameter, thickness. I don't think for a minute they're too old ( C17th to early C20th) but as a newcomer it's frustrating!!! Thanks ...Andre |

Just because you can't see any details with your normal sight it doesn't mean all details have been eroded. What I do is put them on my scanner and scan them at high resolution and then print the picture out so it comes out about the size of a side plate. You can then pin them to the wall and stand back a few paces and get a real good view of said coin. Hope it helps. John |

Thanks for that John, i'll give it a go when i find the power supply for my scanner! A touch of 'editing' on my photo software may also enhance something I can't see! Cheers...Andre |

I do like the idea though, it may work another time... Cheers...Andre |
