Default Bronze Rings

We have all found them, sometimes by the dozen but we do not definitely
know what they were used for. Have a look at the attached link for
some ideas:

Lack of iron isn't surprising, what with discriminator detectors.

In my experience, if iron is ring-shaped, (washers for example), quite often
these give a positive signal even when discrimination is set to reject iron.
This phenomenon is due to the ring acting as an electrical "shorted turn"
which absorbs more transmitted coil energy than a similar solid target of
the same size.
