Lack of iron isn't surprising, what with discriminator detectors. In my experience, if iron is ring-shaped, (washers for example), quite often these give a positive signal even when discrimination is set to reject iron. This phenomenon is due to the ring acting as an electrical "shorted turn" which absorbs more transmitted coil energy than a similar solid target of the same size. |
