I was there. Not a lot of roman, was there? I found a nice enough token from
a tea shop is Salisbury but that was about it. Did you have better luck? "Texy" <texyuk@nospam.tiscali.co.uk> wrote in message news:43457f2d$1_2@mk-nntp-2.news.uk.tiscali.com... > > > Texy > |

I found 1 unidentifiable coin, and lots of buttons. Its usually the case
that if a lot of buttons are found, then coins will be found also, especially Georgian, but not in this case. I didn't see any evidence of anything Roman found, despite rumours of it being a Roman area. I heard that a gold sovereign was found, but didn't see it. Are you a regular Sunday Club attendee ? I don't know about one being found but I saw a fellow with one that he was
very pleased with before the rally. Might have been the same one. Might not have been. I didn't see the one found. Buttons come from clothes dug in to the soil to improve the texture. I suppose that some of them might have had a coin or two in the pockets. It could just be that they are linked because there has been activity pre 1900s in the field. I did see a very tatty Follis and Dupondis but there wasn't much roman, certainly. Yes, I have been to a lot of the Sunday club rallies. I have never found anything much on them. That said, I was a few feet from the fellow who found the Lambourne hoard. We had all been coming up dry and we were pretty sure that there was nothing there. We were of course wrong. Mark |
