Now I have a little more detecting time under my belt there's a couple of
questions i'd like to ask. A local farmer has allowed me on his pasture land. Thru the bottom of the field runs a (presumed buried or dismantled) Roman road. It's path is not clearly defined but a fair width of 'plateau' shows roughly where it ran. My first question is regarding depth. I've found most finds (circa C19th/20th) around 3-4" deep but guess on pastured the older finds are more likely to be deeper. I've tried increasing the SENSITIVITY to almost max, backing off from false signals. It's quite happy to run around the 11 mark but have only tried this setting for the last 1/2 hour of my latest session so have not given it time to make a difference. Is this alteration a wise thing on pasture? Also, the THRESHOLD setting, is this merely a volume control or a level setting, below which, finds will not register? What would the effect of increasing/decreasing have? And finally, any of you guys use GPS to log finds or maybe map areas covered? If so, what do you use, recommend or advise against? I know it's overkill but I could use GPS in other pursuits.... Cheers...Andre |
