Hi all
On Tuesday I had a Solarcon a99 installed. The SWR is 1.3 on 19 (27.781). According to the power meter my Magnum Deltaforce transmits 42w on FM, 10w on AM and I have had SSB peaking at about 40w. Can this be correct? My Deltaforce is only supposed to output 30w. |

I have the same meter plugged into a Magnum 257.
I get similar output readings even though the paperwork for the rig suggests lower. I got an swr of 1.5 on the same FM freq, but this differs from meter to meter. I would check the output on another power meter to confirm. They all seem to differ in my experience. Firstly you are using CB meters...get a decent quality meter thats correctly
aligned first.. i call the meter a CB one as it is..and they are not exactly accurate on the readings.. secondly are you using a 50ohms load ?? this is the only way to get a true reading from a meter.. as even if you SWR is 1.1:1 you may not get an accurate reading.. I will try a different power meter although Knights's price is £33 so it
isn't a cheap one. Can you recommend a model? no in-line power meter will be accurate, it's not into 50R.
change the length of your patch lead..bingo diff reading again. do it into a dummy load, that will be your correct o/p. then just ingone what it say with the aerial on it. it's better to leave any meters out of line anyway. mike "Liam" <liam@tummons.karoo.co.uk> wrote in message news:Nhycnf0ptf6DYYnfSa8jmA@karoo.co.uk... > I will try a different power meter although Knights's price is £33 so it > isn't a cheap one. > Can you recommend a model? > > "hugh.g.rekshun" <trugoy_cream@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:U66Rd.305$0x1.194@newsfe2-win.ntli.net... > > Firstly you are using CB meters...get a decent quality meter thats > correctly > > aligned first.. > > i call the meter a CB one as it is..and they are not exactly accurate on > the > > readings.. > > secondly are you using a 50ohms load ?? > > this is the only way to get a true reading from a meter.. > > as even if you SWR is 1.1:1 you may not get an accurate reading.. > > > > "zzjabzz" <zzjabzz@hotmail.com> wrote in message > > news:sZ5Rd.964$Wz1.388@newsfe4-gui.ntli.net... > > >I have the same meter plugged into a Magnum 257. > > > I get similar output readings even though the paperwork for the rig > > > suggests > > > lower. > > > I got an swr of 1.5 on the same FM freq, but this differs from meter to > > > meter. > > > I would check the output on another power meter to confirm. > > > They all seem to differ in my experience. > > > > > > "Liam" <liam@tummons.karoo.co.uk> wrote in message > > > news:MPacndHsl9JHGYnfSa8jmA@karoo.co.uk... > > >> Hi all > > >> On Tuesday I had a Solarcon a99 installed. According to RigPix the Magnum Deltaforce does output 40w.
Could anyone confirm this? http://www.rigpix.com/cbfreeband/magnum_deltaforce.htm "Liam" <liam@tummons.karoo.co.uk> wrote in message news:MPacndHsl9JHGYnfSa8jmA@karoo.co.uk... > Hi all > On Tuesday I had a Solarcon a99 installed. Liam,
>According to RigPix the Magnum Deltaforce does output 40w. >Could anyone confirm this? > >http://www.rigpix.com/cbfreeband/magnum_deltaforce.htm I'm not experienced with this rig but at least they quote the correct multiplication factor of average/carrier power to peak power. AM to SSB. I would think there's a couple instead of one plastic RF output device so 10w is more than feasible. I wouldn't worry to much. If the rig suits your needs then go for it, unless you have one already. -- Philip de Cadenet Transmitters 'R' Us http://www.transmittersrus.com |

Today I have bought a different SWRPWR Meter and got the same results.
My Magnum Deltforce definatly transmits 42w FM,11w AM and above 40w on SSB. The readings for the Magnum 257 are probably correct. If you are using an aerial, then you will always get false readings unless it is under laboratory conditions. |

Liam you dont state that you are using a dummy load. This needs to be
at least a 50watt type and with short patch leads. Connect this to the antenna socket of your power meter push the transmit button on the mic and you will get as true a reading as possible on your meter. To test your SSB output you would need to inject an audio tone at the mic audio input or give a continuous steady whistle. The following is the quoted spec on this rig from a uk supplier. Specifications: Frequency: 28-29.7MHz (expandable to 25.15-29.7MHz) Modes: AM, FM, SSB Size: 6 x 2 x 9.5" Output: 30W FM/SSB, 9W AM Current: 6A Memory: 5 channels` Hope this helps |

I tried a 50w Zetagi dummy load and get the sames results on the TM999
42w FM, 11w Am, over 40w ssb. But on my K-Po 171 SWR/Power meter I get the correct DeltaForce results.
