Default Welcome to License Free CB 8th December 2006

Well as a keen CB enthusiast and user over the years i am pleased to
see that our absurd CB license has finally been scrapped as of from
today, i am not sure it will make much difference now and it is
something that should have been done years ago, however it might, i say
might just get a few more breakers back on air, i hope so, meanwhile
may i wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the
sunny south.

Tim

Madman 27/81 since 1984

You are number 6.....welcome to Bognor Regis.

You might have a few more radio amateurs on the CB bands because I for one
refused to pay another 15 quid for the CB licence on top of the 15 quid
amateur radio licence. Now it's all free it might be another band that you
can discuss other issues that you cant do on the amateur radio band.

Amatuer license is free also now. You still have to have a license but it
doesn't cost anything.

If you think you can't discuss any isssues you want, you should listen to
some of the G3s on HF.

And the bit that everyone missed is that 27/81 kit is NOT permitted
under the new regime!

MPT1382 kit is required, not MPT1320.

I believe that it is. Looking at the OfCom site it lists what is allowed and
the markings. 27/81 is still there for "it's useful life" however long that
may be.

Not so:
"In summary, CB radio equipment that has formerly been type approved,
and will necessarily comply with the minimum requirements of the
relevant UK Interface Requirement (IR 2027), may continue to be used.
Such equipment will have been type approved to MPT 1320, MPT 1333, MPT
1382 or ETS 300 135. Please note that specifications MPT 1320 (27/81
equipment) and MPT 1333 have been withdrawn but equipment type approved
to these specifications may continue to be used for the
lifetime of the equipment."

No glasses on your list to Santa this methinks.

Please note that specifications MPT 1320 (27/81
equipment) and MPT 1333 have been withdrawn but equipment type approved
to these specifications may continue to be used for the
lifetime of the equipment.

I believe Mr Hammer to be correct. Although they have withdrawn the
specification and 27/81 equipment can no longer be made (legally) they have
allowed the continued use of said existing equipment for it's useful
lifetime (which could mean anything). Rumours have it though that by 2010
the band itself will be withdrawn just like the 934 band was, but that is
speculation only at this point.

You can use it on 19 to your hearts content. Not legally though but looking
