Many foks travel to the USA from Europe, and they bring their two-way
radios to the USA. The European PMR-446 radios used in Europe are ILLEGAL in the USA! PMR446 radios transmit on the 70 cm amateur radios band in the US. Only licensed amateur radio operators have authority to use these frequencies. You would be interfering with a licensed radio service. Leave your radios at home and purchase FRS radios in the USA. Since most FRS radios also share channels with GMRS, you must read the manuals and make sure you only use the license-free FRS frequencies. Take care and enjoy travels to the USA. |

Actually, I reckon it was one of the first groups I ever posted to. Just don't have much to say. Reflecting current CB usage situation I guess. -- Conor Light travels faster than sound. Warnings are given to USA citizens to keep their radios home also. Our GMRS/FRS will interfere with your public safety services. |

The frequencies are allocated to control links. Plus... hard to find "skips" reaching that far on UHF |

We have a similar problem with FRS in Europe as you do with PMR446 in the USA (worse because the frequencies used by FRS are allocated to emergency services in some European countries). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Radio_Service "In Great Britain FRS frequencies are used for fire brigade communications and this sometimes causes problems when FRS equipment is imported from the U.S. and used without awareness of the consequences by members of the public." -- -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Used to have on in a lorry in the early to mid 90's but then did what everyone else did when mobiles became popular. Used to do a lot of DXing though. Got some QSL cards somewhere. The best I had was to a bloke sat on a boat at a lake in Czech Republic during the height of the last solar cycle. -- Conor Light travels faster than sound.
