Default SWR Meter

I've just bought a Maycom handheld CB and want to put an external
aerial on it. Can I use any SWR meter to tune the aerial (e.g. a
2-meter one) or do I have to buy a special CB model.

You'll have to excuse our resident windae licker, Jim, living proof that
care in the community doesn't work.

In reply to the OP's question, yes you do need a SWR meter for the correct
frequency. Maplins do one for a Tenner.

I wouldn't recommend buying one off of ebay, because a high proportion of
them will be buggered.

if you have a 2mtr SWR meter why the hell don't you know about CB !!!
i thought only amateurs had 2mtr gear..

now being serious is it a 2mtr as in 144mhz meter, or do you mean a meter
that has TWO meters.. ???

if so any CB meter or amateur meter capable of working around 27mhz will do
it..

saying that a lot of the older CB meters were capable or working from 3 to
150mhz..!!

It's 2 meter as in 144MHz.

I started with CB about 1980 but because CB had become so crowded out,
I qualified as a radio amateur in 1983. I was on the air for about
five years and then forgot about it except a bit of listening.

I just thought I'd buy a CB handheld two weeks ago and am amazed by
the change. It's quite quiet! Although I have a bit of paper which
says I should know about SWR and such like, I have to confess I've
forgotten most of the details and will have to mug up on it or ask the
good people on usenet.

In that case it's "2 Metre", meter is the American spelling.

So long as its not specifically for VHF any SWR meter that covers at least
26MHz - 28MHz i.e 0-30MHz will suffice.

Now do you mean a SWR meter with 2 meters on it or and SWR meter that is
used for 2 Metres (VHF)?

To buy a brand new CB SWR meter will give you change out of a fiver.

Anything over 50 MHZ is considered VHF. CB is HF
