Hi,
I have just acquired a Lincoln, when I got it the VFO dial had a fault, it worked OK on the down but a little iffy on the up. Now the channel up has stopped working and the 'INCIC' meter button doesn't work. Is there anyone local to South Wales that can carry out repairs on these? Thx |

That's not good... What have you done to it... And what 'INCIC' button? -- Paul Cummins, Always a NetHead Wasting Bandwidth since 1981 |

sounds like dirt..worn out, I use the VFO..not the up/down on the radio..Do
you have the stock mic? if so, try to see if the up/down on the mic will change the channels. If so you know where the problem is. |

I switched the unit off over night and it was fine again the following morning. After about an hour of use the problem came again. I Opened the rig and aimed a desk fan at the internals for about 20mins and the problem went away. I therefore assume heat is the issue. How to resolve this I'm not sure. |

Get a "freezer" spray. This can be directed at a suspect component and used to instantly cool it. Cool one component at a time and give each one a few seconds before moving on to the next. Start with semiconductors, you could also feel them to see which ones are running warm - testing them first. However, first of all, I would check the regulator voltages on the CPU / PLL board. A small change in a regulator voltage can be enough to leave an ICs operating on the edge of it's ratings or dissipating excessive amounts of heat. As the conduction within a semiconductor is affected by temperature, and some may have thermal shutdown included, an IC may then work only when above or below a certain temperature. Another problem seen with the older Lincolns was the selector switch contacts. The display would show that the radio had gone up a step, but it hadn't really... it would be showing one frequency but operating on another. The answer was to open up the switch, clean and grease the contacts. You have to be careful how you open the switch - it was not made to be opened and repaired.
