It was 16 round here because when the first crystal controlled sets were
imported in the mid 70's one of the locals had a dodgy channel 14 crystal
and felt left out so they all moved to 16.

That was in Stirling where I was brought up.
The person in question ended up as a GM4.
There was a lot of CB activity in the mid and early 70's when crystal
control was the standard with 23 channels.

the vco on a cb hand held he had just given me some xtals for......no
wonder it took him to last year to get his MM3........and if it wasn't for
the FL I am sure he would still be on 11m......where he belongs.......

I thought the Phhhrrrt at key-up and and beep at the end were famous. I remember people
telling the users what type of radio they were using just by those sounds.
There were a few radios that sent a fart when first keyed. The PLL is normally set up to
disable transmit until the PLL is locked, but some designs allowed transmit as soon as you
pressed the button - causing them to fart across the band.
But one type also had a distictive beep at the end, if it was switched on.

Ring any bells?

Regards,
Peter.
