In the 70's, some CBers used what we called a "Wally Lamp". This was a
little neon light which would sit on top of your DV27 or similar twig and would light up when you hit the transmit key. (Played havoc with your output and SWR but never mind, eh?) Now my daughter has a rig and wants to get a lamp (Honest!!) Anybody know if they're still made and if so, where can we get one? Thanks |

If you cannot get one, make one. Neon bulbs are commonly used in electrical switches, so they should be available in any local electronic or electrical component store. Take one lead, bend it up the glass bulb and wrap the end around the tip of the bulb (if possible). The other lead connects to the tip of the aerial. All you then need to find is some coloured lens for it. As for SWR, the light becomes part of the antenna so you may need to shorten the antenna to compensate for the additional length. I once put one on a base antenna. Regards, Peter. http://www.citizensband.radiouk.com/ |
