Details of this consultation are available at Ofcom's website at the following address: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/wtexemption/ The closing date for responses to this consultation is 22 September 2006. Ofcom plans to publish a policy statement on Wireless Telegraphy Act exemption during October and we hope to be able to confirm that the Citizens ' Band radio service will become licence exempt in this statement with amended regulations coming into force during the early part December 2006. In the meantime you are still required to hold a Wireless Telegraphy Act licence in order to use the Citizens' Band radio service. If you require a new licence, please call the RLC on 0870 243 4433 for information. I hope this helps, Graham -- -.-. -... / .-. .- -.. .. --- Radio is only a Hobby. So what point is that, Paul? You asked a similar question not long back about cb licensing in Ireland (on a uk newsgroup!). So, what does that prove? As regards the 901, I expect it still works but it hasn't had power on it in some years. In fact I say maybe as long as 10 years. I have the odd listen on the local CB channels and often find views and opinions which are far better informed and expressed than any I've seen from you. -- 73 Brian www.g8osn.org.uk |

brought up megastiff and i did have a good trawl and certainly chuckled at you with the "almost there perm" hairdo hehe, coupled with the laid back charm and cheesy smiles.....took me back to my early days. I rarely hear anyone I can actually understand. Appears to be two people with stereotypical tight throated west of Scotland accents pronouncing strings of swear words at each other from trucks. There is one guy very close to me using Kenwood amateur transceiver mainly for FM on CB. I heard him saying that there were only about five active CBers in the town which would mean we had more active radio amateurs than CBers. |

Well, if I heard only "tight throated west of Scotland accents" on 27MHz, I'd assume that conditions were "up". I don't listen to CB often- once in awhile when someone comments that it is "dead" or "busy". Locally activity isn't high and, while there is some swearing, there are also quite reasonable QSOs. CB is no different to others hobbies which, in general, have their own a***eholes. Certainly the ex-CBers who I've come across via the M3 training I run etc. have been pleasant enough people- I'd certainly have no qualms about spending time with them. -- 73 Brian www.g8osn.org.uk |

It seems crazy to buy a year's licence if, by the time it comes, it then only lasts a month or Two. They may say that existing licences will still be valid but, if it is not needed, it will become a useless piece of paper. Come to think of it, maybe you could then sell it as a collectors item on eBay for a few hundred Quid... some idiot would buy it. Regards, Peter. http://www.citizensband.radiouk.com/ |
