Default Latest on CB licenses?

Someone just mentioned / asked about the latest plans for CB licenses.

I've not been tracking developments, can anyone advise on the latest news?

Brian,

Ofcom is currently consulting on proposals to make Citizens' Band radio
equipment exempt from the requirement to hold a Wireless Telegraphy Act
licence. Details of this consultation are available at Ofcom's website at
the following address:

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/wtexemption/

The closing date for responses to this consultation is 22 September 2006.

Ofcom plans to publish a policy statement on Wireless Telegraphy Act
exemption during October and we hope to be able to confirm that the Citizens
' Band radio service will become licence exempt in this statement with
amended regulations coming into force during the early part December 2006.
In the meantime you are still required to hold a Wireless Telegraphy Act
licence in order to use the Citizens' Band radio service. If you require a
new licence, please call the RLC on 0870 243 4433 for information.

I hope this helps,
Graham

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

I've no plans that need a CB licence but, when it is exempted, I may be
tempted to dust of the Amstrad- just to give zpk something to whinge about
;-)

Well done on passing the FL, by the way.

So what point is that, Paul? You asked a similar question not long back
about cb licensing in Ireland (on a uk newsgroup!). So, what does that
prove?

As regards the 901, I expect it still works but it hasn't had power on it in
some years. In fact I say maybe as long as 10 years. I have the odd listen
on the local CB channels and often find views and opinions which are far
better informed and expressed than any I've seen from you.

As far as my hair goes, I do still have a full head of hair it's just that
most of it is grey and rather than dye the bl**dy stuff I just cut it
short... saves on combing too.. excellent.....
The Walkman was one I nabbed off my brother for the evening as I knew
college was going to be boring that day. Isn't it funny how we change over
the years but the odd few look nearly the same.......

Making an effort? What are you on about....... 12wpm does not make you a
superior being... it makes you a sad gimp if that is all you have to show
for your 'effort' in life... especially if you continually drone on and on
about it. You are becoming as obsessed as Beanie... take 5 for goodness
sake.

> or how about..

How about live and let live? Anyone who is an Amateur can use a CB if they
want especially when they can sometimes get more sense out of it. Why do you
see it as such a bad thing? There are far more important things you could be
bothering yourself with.....SIF's never have a good life...

I rarely hear anyone I can actually understand.
Appears to be two people with stereotypical tight throated west of Scotland
accents pronouncing strings of swear words at each other from trucks.
There is one guy very close to me using Kenwood amateur transceiver mainly
for FM on CB.
I heard him saying that there were only about five active CBers in the town
which would mean we had more active radio amateurs than CBers.

No, it makes you a very slow CW operator by any reasonable standards.
Enough to send me to sleep frankly.
If people can't do 15 wpm+ they should stay on SSB.

Well, if I heard only "tight throated west of Scotland accents" on 27MHz,
I'd assume that conditions were "up".

I don't listen to CB often- once in awhile when someone comments that it is
"dead" or "busy". Locally activity isn't high and, while there is some
swearing, there are also quite reasonable QSOs. CB is no different to others
hobbies which, in general, have their own a***eholes.

Certainly the ex-CBers who I've come across via the M3 training I run etc.
have been pleasant enough people- I'd certainly have no qualms about
spending time with them.

Either that or wait a couple of months before using it. It seems crazy to buy
a year's licence if, by the time it comes, it then only lasts a month or Two.
They may say that existing licences will still be valid but, if it is not needed, it
will become a useless piece of paper.

Come to think of it, maybe you could then sell it as a collectors item
on eBay for a few hundred Quid... some idiot would buy it.

Regards,

Peter.

and since aul' graham wont know, when practicing to be confortable at
12wpm, most were capable of 15wpm and if practiced enough could take 18
in discomfort and 20wpm in pain for short bursts.

after the test and with regular use, 20wpm at comfort was usual.

those of professional standard would meanwhile be buzzing away at
30wpm+ on the key whilst receiving with a typewriter becuase they
couldnt physically write fast enough to keep up.

I wouldn't know because I have no interest in Morse old fruit. We know
though that you will continually bleat on about it because it's all you have
to go on about. Amateur radio is far, far more than Morse........

i know it is...

but some of those who ran away from a simple morse test are now involved
in forcing complete beginners to sit a compulsory morse assessment thereby
showing the absolute ridiculous situation of it all.

even a certain national society wanted the end of the morse test and now
stands over and watches complete beginners being forced to sit a NO FAIL
farce.

"no code international" was/is an organisation that exists to ca,mpaign to
have morse code removed from any licence exams.

its own (now dead) director emirtus (??) had an m3 licence.

you cant get an m3 licence *without* sitting the morse appreciation farce.

if you apply the arguments that were put forward by the anti morse brigade
were still being spouted by them...none of them would have been able to
get their m3 licences.

and if they had any courage, they would be wailing at anyone else sitting
the morse appreciation because it gives status to the morse appreciation
farce.

but are they ?

no...!

double standards are alive and well in the ranks of b-licensees.
