OK, so looking at getting back into CB. The obligatory "shoved in a
carrier bag under the stairs" rig I have is a deaf as a post cheapo 40ch thing so I need a new one. Now I used to have a Maycom EM27 when they first came out and it was OK for me but I used to have it in the car/truck. I had a Superstar 3900 at home and used to go DXing on that. I fancy shoving a 5/8 wave on the back of the house and doing a little DXing but using the Maycom. Is it worth opening up a Maycom to 400 channels or not? Basically I'm thinking of just having the Maycom and using it in the car or house as required. Or am I better getting another SS 3900? Is there much on SSB anymore? Licence free. What's the situation? Do I still need to apply for a licence albeit cost free? What about using callsigns for DXing like I used to when I was in a club? -- Conor "You're not married, you haven't got a girlfriend and you've never seen Star Trek? Good Lord!" - Patrick Stewart |

For a 10m run that is a huge loss! Coupled to the fact that it will melt when you stick 400W down it... For a 10m run that is a huge loss! Huge ? <1db is huge ? errrr ..... If I stuck a one db attenuator in the back of my radio it would make no difference at all - none - not a jot. > Coupled to the fact that it will melt when you stick 400W down it... Exactly 10 times the max rated power for CB. You could however stick 100w down it with no trouble at all. > I use half inch cellflex to my antennas. For HF or CB that's a strange decision. RG213 would be simpler to work with. I use cellflex, but only at 2.3Ghz. |
