Default CB Licence

Is the abolition of the licence still on the cards for December?

I have just purchased a new CB after being out of the hobby for 18 years and
am in the process of erecting the antenna (1/2 wave on top of a 20" mast in
the garden, but that's another story). If the abolition of the license is
going to go ahead I will not bother to buy one now and just hang on a few
more weeks

Don't forget that although you won;t need a license, you still have to keep
within legal spec or as was rightly put by someone, you will be a pirate and
as far as I recall (less they changed the specs when I wasn't looking) a
half wave 11 metre antenna (5.5 metres long) is too long.

You obviously blinked some time ago,

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archi...a246/ra246.htm

Antennas for 27 MHz CB
The following types of antenna are legal:

A single, vertical, omnidirectional monopole, the driven element of which
does not exceed 6.95m in length or 55mm in diameter, including any loading
coils and associated circuitry and casings, but excluding any plates, radial
wires or rods designed to act as a ground plane or counterpoise, which are
located at the physical base of the antenna;

Snipped.

You can have almost 7 metres now? So half wave is allowed, sweet. I
appreciate the info. Thanks.

I think most antennas are legal now with the only couple of exceptiion i
know of being the Vector 4000/Sigma 4 and the Sirio 2012/16/18 (because of
the size of the coil/casing)

I know the 827 is legal though

Don't forget, with the mast if big enough it may require planning
permission.

Wahoo,
That's good then, maybe I should use my Yaesu 1000mp MkV then with the
Quadra amp and the 10 element beam and rotator at 50 foot in the air.

Mick.

Oh and I thought that, that had already happened, are they going to make it
