Default CB 25 yrs old

HI all,
<waffle>

Well, there aren't many things that have lasted as long and still going
reasonably well considering. CB in the UK was popular at the end of the 70's
so although CB in the UK is only officially 25 yrs old it is more likely in
the region of 27 to 28 years. It was around before then but it wasn't seen
as a popular thing.

Now what has lasted as long and still going... Amateur radio obviously and
things like TV (Although that's undergone radical changes in the last
decade) even FM radio is going digital... CB is the same as it was in 81,
apart from the sophistication of the newer rigs everything is just the same.
Computers which became popular around the same time are now completely
different beasties.

I personally think that is pretty good going for a supposedly cheap
communication tool for Joe public to idly chit chat on. People said it
wouldn't last but it has...

And do you know the only reason it is not used as it used to be......
ADVERTISING... pure and simple. If the CB shops and anyone else who has a
vested interest in CB got together and came out with a descent advertising
package I recon lots of people who know nothing about CB would take an
interest. Cruise nights with the young lads in their custom cars would
benefit from CB. They could all get together on air and make it much more
fun. Even a descent program on TV highlighting it's benefits would bring a
whole new crowd flocking.

You get people saying well there's the internet now and mobile phones...
SO!! CB is a different thing and would beat either of those in a car where
groups are concerned, or talking to home from the car and holding a CB mic
is not illegal. This generation just has no idea how useful it can be, and
let's not forget the fun side of it........

Still.... I guess ranting about it in here will not make much difference as
we already know.... what a shame something can't be done by someone who has
the foresight and marketing capabilities......

Hi Graham,

I liked your posting, and I can see your enthusiasm with what you have
said. I also love CB and was there at the end of AM and at beginning of
the UK FM. What killed CB was the music players, bucket mouths, dead
keyers...etc. That is the simple truth of it all, and that is why it
hasn't lasted.

CB in the Blackpool area is dead as a Dodo, in fact most of the coast is
dead.....I remember the days....lol

Nice posting though.

Bye for now.

Darren.

A quick follow up to the VHS bit, I found the following that might be of
interest......

As of July, 2006 most studios have stopped releasing movies in VHS format,
opting for DVD-only releases. VHS pre-recorded movies, however, are still
popular with many collectors.

The sale of VHS machines is just about coming to an end now, it will all go over to DVD at some
time.
