I'm trying to join the PROMA Yahoo group, but Yahoo will not send their
e-mail with the necessary code to sign up, and they do not have a contact e-mail address. I have also tried posting to alt.radio.scanner.uk, but it is not accepting my posts. Could you please get me onto PROMA? (I can't find your e-mail on the site either). |

its nothing to do with NTL
Yahoo/NTL/Wannado and few other UK ISP's got together and came up with a joint inititive to combat mass spamming eminating from their servers. one of the measures was the use of the SORBS anti spammer listing. [amoungst other listings] if an ISP allows mass spamming to come from one of its users then the server its through gets blocked by SORBS. it is down to the ISP concerned, ie Yahoo to cure the problem and remove their server{s} from the listing. thus unless NTL 'unsubscribe' from this agreement its not their fault. the problem lies with Yahoo. this can easily be checked by opening a yahoo.co.uk email ad enabling pop forwarding and sending all your group mail to that yahoo.co.uk email ad. then autofwd this to your ntl account. then the mail will arrive mike "Ken Ward" <ken.g1itv@MTLworld.com> wrote in message news:lbgUg.39299$Mh2.21397@newsfe6-win.ntli.net... > > "PromaBoss" <Promaboss@ntlworld.com> wrote in message > news:AUfUg.39298$Mh2.5991@newsfe6-win.ntli.net... >> yes i had to change all my groups to yahoochief account as NTL the peo[le >> who take £16 a month from me for using the net and another £11 for the >> line rental keep thinking my groups are spam !! >> >> >> its a problem they know about but seem to not care about > > Paul, we can't complain as they are bigger and better than us! :-)) > > Ken Ward. > > |

no it is down to yahoo not removing mass spammers from their system, so some
of their servers fall foul of sorbs. they re the only ones that can put it right and the cant be bothered to do it. basically. there are more interested in filtering what china can see than us in the free world. yahoo service is crap, always has been where groups are concerned. have a little read about how sorbs works and see the running threads on chetnet site bout the same. it depends on which servers get listed as to who gets/don't group mails mike "Jeff" <jeff@local.host> wrote in message news:eft21u$p9s$1@emma.aioe.org... >"> its nothing to do with NTL >> >> Yahoo/NTL/Wannado and few other UK ISP's got together and came up with a >> joint inititive to combat mass spamming eminating from their servers. >> >> one of the measures was the use of the SORBS anti spammer listing. >> [amoungst other listings] >> >> if an ISP allows mass spamming to come from one of its users then the >> server its through gets blocked by SORBS. >> >> it is down to the ISP concerned, ie Yahoo to cure the problem and remove >> their server{s} from the listing. >> >> thus unless NTL 'unsubscribe' from this agreement its not their fault. > > It must be more than that because Wannado , now Orange, works fine here. > > Regards > Jeff > > > |

This e-mail address I use here on usenet (and only on usenet) was set up only 9-10 months ago. To date, I have now received 3100+ spam e-mails to it (which I filter off to a separate folder)!! That is, on average, over 10 spam e-mails per day, and that is starting with a brand new e-mail account!! Now that the address is on the spammers lists, I dread to think what that figure will be in the next 9-10 months! Not that it really concerns me because I usually just take a quick look to see if anyone on usenet has e-mailed me direct and then just mark the entire folder as read without reading any of the junk.... |

Remember, this account has *only* ever been used for usenet postings and *nothing* else and in 9-10 months has managed to attract 3100+ spam messages! Looking at the history, for the first few months I got very little spam to this account (obviously not on the spammers lists as it was a brand new account) but now I'm getting about 35 spam messages per day. If this account had been used to sign up for various dubious websites, then I could understand the amount of spam, but for a usenet only address???? > run mailwasher simple and automatic I used to use mailwasher when I used Windows, but now that I use linux, they don't do a linux version!! Then again, if I was really bothered I'd install up spamassassin or something like that.... > i'm like paul > throw it all at me > i'll choose thanks not my isp I'm with you on that one. I have *fast* broadband here in .nl (BT could learn a thing or two about how to implement fast broadband from the Dutch!!) and also no monthly data limit. So, I don't mind receiving the spam as it just gets directed to a separate folder anyway and gets dealt with accordingly ![]() |

The only simple and intelligent way to avoid the problems between NTL and Yahoo Groups IS to set up a Yahoo email a/c and use that for Group emails.. or change ISP, but that is a bit drastic when NTL are by far the best providers of Broadband in my area. Conversely the address which I started using in 1995 gets thousands a month, although most of these are removed before I fetch my mail. Gmail has SMTP and POP3 servers, with authentication, so you can collect mail with almost any client (Mac Mail 2.1.1 here ATM). Despammed.com was pretty good too, possibly because it didn't forward any mail a good deal of the time! -- Roger. |

I have and don't >get any.. they are only machines that read them after all. My current problem is spamming using my domain name; ie. anything @mydomain.com I know I could through my ISP's control panel to only allow specified addresses to pass emails through to me but part of the 'attraction' of my own domain is the ability to receive emails in the format above. Currently I get all the bounced mail from whoever has hijacked my domain. I don't think the original spam is emanating from me (is there a way to tell?) and I am reasonably well protected with both AVG7.1 Pro with Firewall and PestPatrol. Any useful :-) suggestions welcomed Trev -- Trevor Day UKSMG #217 www.uksmg.org |

It isn't coming from you. The spammers are using your open domain address as a return address so that you get the bounces rather than them. It's very common. -- 73, Jim G4RGA |
