Lazing in the garden over the weekend, with a cold beer and in the
shade, I spotted a hoverfly I've never seen before. First impression was a wasp but flew like a hoverfly. Abdomen was mostly black with a bright yellow spot on each side of each segment. Bright yellow 'eyes' om the head. It was clearly hunting and had good eysight - moving quickly around the flowers on Lamb's Lug. I saw it twice grab a bee, but on neither occassion did it manage to subdue the bee. Any ideas? -- Larry Stoter |
