It would certainly have been a Brimstone. They hibernate as adults and
at this time of year, nothing remotely resembles them.

They don't really vary in size unlike some other butterflies. I
suppose you might get slightly dwarf individuals (poor feeding when a
larva) but not oversized ones.

It's been a long winter; signs of spring are so welcome that I guess
they might seem larger than life.
