Default lizard ID please

I saw a very bright green lizard today (I have a photo, but no website
to post it, unfortunately). Looking at photos on the internet of the
common lizard shows them to be a more muddy green than this one was.
I reckon that it was at least 9 cm long, including the tail, which was
the same length as the body. There were rows of pale spots down its
back. I guess that it must have been a common lizard, as it looked
nothing like the sand lizard, and it certainly wasn`t a slowworm.

Where did you see it? The locations for native Sand Lizard are pretty
limited.

If in a built-up area, I guess an escaped exotic is a distinct
possibility?

I believe that the male sand lizard is our only bright green native lizard.
(Supposed to be particularly intense green in the breeding season).

Dorset (Moors Valley Country Park) - one of the areas the sand lizard
may still be seen. However, this green lizard bore no resemblance to
the pictures I saw of sand lizards on line. If it was an escapee, it
had legged it pretty far as it was a long way from houses! Unless
someone got fed up with a pet and released it in the Park
deliberately.

I may have to print a copy of the photo I took. Perhaps one of the
Rangers may be able to identify it, or confirm that it is not a native
species. It had extremely long toes on its back feet, but maybe
that`s normal for lizards?

Thanks

It turns out that this lizard was a Common. According to the HCT`s
website, common lizards are normally brown, but can be green, yellow,
or nearly black.
It certainly looked exotic in green.

Peter : this lizard was green all over - nose to tail-tip, legs, the
lot - not just down the sides. That was why I wasn`t sure what type
it was initially. I wish I could post the photo I took somewhere,
then you could see just how green it was!

Shame! You aren't connected via broadband are you Kate? If so you would
probably have 20MB or so of web space that you could upload stuff to. You
don't need to muck about with HTML and web pages or any of that - you just
create a location in "My Network Places", type a password and simply drag
and drop your files. Without an index page ordinary files simply appear in
a directory tree on the web - just like in Windows Explorer.

You can see the results of my Mickey-Mouse experimenting of a couple of days
ago at http://www.thespis.eclipse.co.uk. The links are very simple lines of
HTML inserted into the standard page provided by the service provider. The
Bat Survey Results link will show you what you get if you simply put files
ino a folder.

I do have ADSL, and it sounds pretty straight forward, David, and an
excellent idea, but where do I start? In "My Network Places" I have
three options : Microsoft Terminal Services, MS Windows Network, and
Web Client Network. I assume that I use the last one, but when I
click on it, nothing happens. Do you think you could you talk me
through what I should do, please? Assume I know nothing - and you
won`t be far wrong!

Many thanks

Kate

It's normally just an ftp address - you can do it straight from your
browser. In my case the address is ftp://myfiles.eclipse.co.uk. Internet
Explorer opens this in Windows Explorer, showing all the public folders on
the Eclipse ftp server, and when I log in with my Eclipse username and
password my own webspace also appears as a folder. For example the folder
containing my pictures appears in Exlorer under "Internet Explorer" as
ftp://myfiles.eclipse.co.uk/www.thes...o.uk/pictures/ and I can
simply drag and drop to and from this folder.

However, first you must check that your ADSL package actually includes a web
space - all the ones I considered do, but now I'm not so sure how many of
the "popular" providers offer the facility. Normally it will be included if
your email address includes a "subdomain" eg
youraddress@yourdomain.provider.co.uk, in which case your web space will be
www.yourdomain.provider.co.uk. If your email address is simply in the form
youraddress@provider.co.uk then you probably won't have any webspace.

I think that you are with Demon - if so it depends on which package you have
eg "Home Office" includes 20MB of webspace but "Home" doesn't have any.

Sorry If I have misled you.

It`s mine! So I just had delete the [/IMG] bit? I think that
was about the only thing I didn`t try... Thanks, Keith.

David : I have Demon Home Office, so the webspace should be available.
However, it won`t accept my password and I get an error message. I
shall have to speak to Demon to see what I am doing wrong. Meanwhile,
the lizard photo may be seen at the above URL that Keith got to work
for me.

Thanks again
