Default Just released my first youngster of the year

I have just released a young male 45kHz Pipistrelle, it got into one of
the main meeting rooms in North Yorkshire County Hall - about half a
mile from here - and flew off quite happily...

How do I know it was young, it had very translucent bones and wing
joints and it flew rather awkwardly...

Is this a very early youngster, or is it about normal ? I'd say
early...

If your ID is correct then it's early. Pips are supposed to give birth
early June to mid July. Youngsters are weaned at six weeks, which would
suggest that yours must have been born at the beginning of May. However
Bats never read the right books...!

I hope after 14 years of being licensed I can ID a Pip David, though I can be
educated

It does seem to be the consensus of opinion that it is VERY early though...

Knew I should've photographed it !
