As we head into Autumn, while the Rowan leaves are just starting to develop
red edges and the Ivy is in flower, at the front of my house the House Martins are still feeding their chicks, and in my small pond there is a pair of frogs that have been in an amplexus -like embrace for the last three days. I wouldn't expect to see spawn appear now, so they could be in for a long courtship! The Martin chicks are the second brood here this year and should fledge this weekend, over a fortnight later than last year. Does anyone else have Martins at a similar stage? There are photographs of both frogs and martins in my garden diary entries for the last few days. Cheers, David Jones Garden Wildlife Diaries at www.mybitoftheplanet.com |

Fledging up to mid-October is quite regular in the UK (BWP). >There are photographs of both frogs and martins in my garden diary entries >for the last few days. > -- Malcolm |
