When I was fishing at Woodlands Lakes near Thirsk in Yorkshire the other
day, I had a flying insect looking a bit like a overgrown yellowish mosquito about an inch and a bit long, with what can only be described as a beak for a proboscis (large diameter and curved) land on my arm. I flicked it off very quickly as I didn't fancy its bite! Other people have reported being bitten by 'large yellow mosquitos' at these lakes and the resultant swelling and pain was quite spectacular! Does anyone have any idea what they may be? I tried searching the net but can't find it. Sorry the description is a bit vague, but I wanted it off my arm ASAP! |

They have a forum where you can ask for IDs. You do have to register and get a password to post a query, though, but it`s free. Or you could look at their Gallery photos to see if you can ID it yourself. Kate |
