Food for thought!
http://www.animalaid.org.uk/ 10 Reasons to go veggie Vegetarians have been shown to live longer, as they have lower risk heart disease, obesity and cancer. The average meat-eater will consume 2000 animals in his or her lifetime, plus half a tonne of fish. Animals farmed for their meat, eggs, milk and skins are effectively slaves, with no rights as sensitive individuals. Animals naturally form close bonds with each other and experience a range of emotions, but on modern farms they are treated as meat products and slaughtered at a very young age. The slaughter of farmed animals is horrific cruelty - regardless of how they are reared. They are surrounded by the stench of death and many will bellow and thrash around in terror. Hoisted by a leg, they move along a line towards the slaughterer. Many will have their throats cut and will bleed to death while still fully conscious. Eating meat exposes you to all the nasty substances in the bloodstream of intensively farmed animals, such as antibiotics, hormones and diseases. 95% of food poisoning cases are caused by eating meat, eggs or dairy products. It's not surprising when animal diseases run rife in dirty, overcrowded factory farms. Farming animals consumes vast quantities of water, energy, land and grain, whilst large numbers of people starve. Farmed animals produce enormous amounts of methane gas, the second biggest cause of global warming. One quarter of the earth's surface is wasted as pasture for livestock, while wildlife habitats dwindle. An acre of cereal produces five times more protein than an acre used for meat production. www.animalaid.org.uk Animal Aid campaigns peacefully against all animal abuse, and promotes a cruelty-free lifestyle. I guess it's time to start compaigning for animal rights? And then, 40 years later, for animal marriage (or at least animal civil partnerships) ? Yes, species kill another one, and eat them. This is life, deal with it. > The slaughter of farmed animals is horrific cruelty - regardless of > how they are reared. Yes, slaughter probably can be done more *humanly*. > Eating meat exposes you to all the nasty substances in the bloodstream > of intensively farmed animals, such as antibiotics, hormones and > diseases. Yeah, And of course vegetables these days are all natural and are not treated with any sibstances, and not genetically engineered. > 95% of food poisoning cases are caused by eating meat, eggs or dairy > products. And you are definitely overstating state of farms. > Farming animals consumes vast quantities of water, energy, land and > grain, whilst large numbers of people starve. They are not starving because of excessive farming. They are starving because there are *not enough* farming! The solution is to get those people some constant and reliable way to produce food. > Farmed animals produce enormous amounts of methane gas, the second > biggest cause of global warming. Bs. Industry and car emissions are the major cause, and the rest is negligible. > One quarter of the earth's surface is wasted as pasture for livestock, > while wildlife habitats dwindle. And one sixth of Earth surface is wasted for housing, roads, and golf courses. Kill the humans I say! > An acre of cereal produces five times more protein than an acre used > for meat production. Questionable. And meat tastes better :-P |
