Does anyone know of any proteins that are toxic by ingestion? It seems to me
that stomach acids and proteases would hydrolyse and digest them. I know bacteria can produce toxic proteins if they get into the blood. Will such proteins be toxic if you ingest them? Also, Creutzfeld-Jakob's disease is thought by some to be transmitted by ingestion of toxic proteins. What evidence (if any) is there to support this hypothesis? Any pharmacology/biochemistry/toxicology paper references? |
