Subject: Gov. Richardson Endorses Nutrition Council, Mercury Ban,
Aspartame Hearings

Governor Richardson Goes Three for Three Delivering
Christmas Cheer and Health to New Mexico Citizens
by Leland Lehrman

Stephen Fox, Dr. Ken Stoller and I had the last appointment
with Governor Bill Richardson before Christmas.

And boy did he throw open the gift bag for New Mexico.

We asked three things, namely

1) that he put the Nutrition Council Act on his call to the Legislature,

2) that he support legislation to ban thimerosal or mercury-containing
vaccinations statewide and

3) that he encourage the Environmental Improvement Board
and Attorney General to stand their ground
now that corporate lawyers from the aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal)
industry have threatened litigation to prevent five-day hearings
on the toxicity of aspartame this July.

The Governor granted each request with enthusiasm,
qualifying only the mercury vaccination ban
on a discussion with his health cabinet.

Dr. Stoller has lined up Rep. Peter Wirth to carry a bill
banning thimerosal mercury vaccinations pending the Governor's call.

If you want to protect infants, children and your neighbors
from mercury poisoning,
please call Secretary of Health Michelle Lujan Grisham
at (505) 827-2613 and encourage her to recommend
to the Governor that he support a complete ban
on mercury in all vaccinations, publicly or privately administered.

Please also call Michelle Welby, [ michelle.welby@state.nm.us ]
the Governor's Senior Policy Adviser for Health Care
with the same message at (505) 476-2200.

Although the Nutrition Council Act is now on the Governor's Call,
meaning it has his full support and an opportunity to become law
even in this short 30 day session,
please warm up your keyboards and phone fingers,
because we have to go all out to get this act passed. Why?

Because the Nutrition Council Act grounds in law
the right of New Mexico to protect its food supply
in the all too common event that federal authorities fail to do so.

The legislation "finds that federal authorities have
not intended to or expressed an intention to occupy and preempt
the areas of nutrition addressed in the Nutrition Council Act and,
therefore, the legislature may create a nutrition council
to make recommendations to protect and ensure
public health and safety for all New Mexicans."

This extremely important State's Rights precedent
has extensive application throughout public policy
given the degenerating quality of our national leadership.

Please contact your legislators and party leadership,
letting them know that the Nutrition Council Act
(Senate Bill 525 or House Bill 721) is on the Governor's Call
and that you hope they will bring it to a successful vote.

When Mr. Fox informed the Governor that attorney Richard Minzner,
husband to Supreme Court Justice Pamela Minzner,
will officially attempt to stop the Environmental Improvement Board
(EIB) from holding their scheduled July hearings,
his response was: "We're holding hearings."

He went on to explain:
"We have to hold hearings because the FDA doesn't do anything at all."
In the absence of quality oversight at the federal level,
States have no choice but to promulgate better standards.

But the Governor's support does not guarantee victory on January 3rd,
the date attorney Minzner appears on the EIB agenda
to challenge the aspartame hearings.

We need to keep calls and emails going into
the Governor (505) 476-2200,
Attorney General Patsy Madrid (505) 827-6000
and the Environmental Improvement Board (505) 827-2002
supporting the hearings.

Please kindly inform each person you contact
that you support the EIB's aspartame hearings
and disapprove of the threatened litigation to stop them.

We also welcome everyone to appear in person
for public comment on Tuesday, January 3rd at 9:30 AM
at the Leo Griego Auditorium, State Personnel Office,
2600 Cerrillos Rd. Santa Fe, NM.

The extensive turnout, public comment and legislator participation
in the original EIB meeting was critical
to our successful achievement of the five day hearing.

Well-funded but toxic policy will ruin our world without your help.

And remember to call the Governor at 505.476.2200,
wish him Happy Holidays and thank him for his efforts on our behalf.

Interested parties can call Stephen Fox at 505.983.2002
regarding the Nutrition Council Act and the Aspartame Hearings,
Ken Stoller regarding Mercury in Vaccinations at 505.780.0006
and Leland Lehrman with news or questions at 505.982.3609.

We also need critical financial support
to retain the services of our until now pro bono attorney
Stevan Looney, who was largely responsible for our original success
at the EIB. Call Leland at 505.982.3609 if you can help.

Any unsuspected source of methanol, which the body always quickly
and largely turns into formaldehyde and then formic acid, must be
monitored, especially for high responsibility occupations, often with
night shifts, such as pilots and nuclear reactor operators.

In particular, the next review gives many recent mainstream
peer-reviewed studies that show formaldehyde,
always inevitably derived in the body from any methanol source,
including aspartame, causes endothelial injury,
ie, diabetic neuropathy -- among the most serious and complex
complications of diabetes.

As a medical layman, I suggest that evidence mandates immediate
exploration of the role of these ubiquitious, potent formaldehyde
sources as co-factors in epidemiology, research, diagnosis,
and treatment in a wide variety of disorders.

Folic acid, from fruits and vegetables, plays a role by powerfully
protecting against methanol (formaldehyde) toxicity.

Many common drugs, such as aspirin, interfere with folic acid,
as do some mutations in relevant enzymes.

The majority of aspartame reactors are female.

Dark wines and liquors, as well as aspartame, provide
similar levels of methanol, above 100 mg daily, for
long-term heavy users, 2 L daily, about 6 cans.

Methanol is inevitably largely turned into formaldehyde,
and thence largely into formic acid.
It is the major cause of the dreaded symptoms of "next
morning" hangover.

Fully 11% of aspartame is methanol -- 1,120 mg aspartame
in 2 L diet soda, almost six 12-oz cans, gives 123 mg
methanol (wood alcohol). If 30% of the methanol is turned
into formaldehyde, the amount of formaldehyde, 37 mg,
is 18.5 times the USA EPA limit for daily formaldehyde in
drinking water, 2.0 mg in 2 L average daily drinking water.
