Default Felodipine vs. Plendil Problem

Just thought I should use this opportunity and newsgroup to post this
message just in case it has the potential to help someone or possibly save
them from a serious medical problem or worse. I know a lot of people use
the search engines to look across the universe of newsgroups for just such
information, and I could not find anything similar, so here goes, but first
a very important message:

*** THIS INFORMATION SHOULD NOT BE RELIED ON AS MEDICAL ADVICE!
*** IT IS ONLY RELATED FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!
*** EACH PERSON SHOULD CONSULT THEIR OWN MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL!

Here's the deal:

One of my female relatives, aged in her late seventies, had been on Plendil
for several years without any real problems. Once Felodipine was made
available at her pharmacy and covered under her health plan, her doctor
switched her over a couple of months ago. Fortunately, my relative keeps
very good record of her medical ups and downs, including a daily blood
pressure measurement from both arms. Well, almost immediately after going
onto Felodipine, her blood pressure began to rise gradually, eventually to
alarming levels over the course of a month. As to whether that was as a
result of the Felodipine causing the rise, or whether the Felodipine was
simply not effective in the way the Plendil had been, that was never
determined, although the latter was suspected. Anyway, before experiencing
the cure to this, she was unsure what was causing the increased blood
pressure, but obviously suspected this seemingly subtle change of
medication. Her doctor concurred and returned her to Plendil this week.
Fortunately, once she returned to Plendil, the blood pressure almost
immediately returned to previous (almost normal) levels. This experience
may not be shared by anyone else, but I suspect in that vast world out
there, there are going to be many others who may want to look at this as a
possibility. Good luck.
