Default NHS Pension, rock and a hard place!

I have returned to the NHS after several years out due to illness, I
was awarded an NHS pension and found that returning part time I would
not effect my pension. I also found that there was an over 50 rule that
did not allow me to rejoin the scheme and rebuild my pension. I have
been regraded and find now that a rule called abatement is about to
kick in and I will loose part or all of my monthly pension, yet if I
had returned to private nursing my pension would not have been effected
whatever I earned.

A friend at work was telling me that there was a proposal to end the
abatement rule, has anyone heard the same? and if so when is it likely
to happen?

All I can find there is the over 50 rule:

Pensioners who have retired on incapacity grounds
may rejoin the Scheme, providing the re-employment
takes place before the age of 50. Re-employments
that take place after age 50 cannot be pensionable.

and the abatement rule:

7.17.1 The effects of becoming re-employed in
the NHS depends upon different
circumstances. Any re-employment in the NHS can
possibly affect the pension paid. This can be for
either pensionable or non-pensionable reemployment.

Wonder where my colleague has seen the proposal of the removal of the
abatement rule??

In your Trust finance office there should be one or more superannuation
officers who should know all the current and impending regulations.

Will check with them next week and maybe give the pension people a ring
if the finance office don't know. I was hoping what I had been told was
true!!

I arrange retirement preparation seminars for trust employees and get their
superannuation officers to talk about NHS pension issues. In my experience
they know the scheme inside out and always offer to contact NHS Pensions to
clarify if necessary. Good luck, and fingers/toes crossed!

Called the Trust pension dept but they would not discuss "proposals" as
they knew no more than me.
It's no wonder nurses go into the private sector as I did find out from
the NHS pension dept what things are as they stand today:

At the moment I recieve my pension in full but my wages are 20 hours at
Band 2, Im moving to 30 hours at band 5, this will exceed the quartely
earnings margin so I will loose all of my pension or as they say it
will be "shelved" so that when I retire I get it back or if I reduce
below the margin I get it back.

I have just worked out I will be better off by £100 per month after
tax and no pension!!!

I love the job and won't give back word but am dissapointed.
